Eight border guards martyred in northwestern Iran

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Eight Iranian border guards were killed in an armed clash with terrorists in Chaldoran border point in West Azarbaijan Province, northwestern Iran, on Friday evening, a local official has said.

During the armed clash, a large number of the terrorists were killed by the Iranian forces but eight border guards became martyred, Alireza Radfar, the deputy governor of West Azerbaijan for political, security and social affairs said.

He added that chasing the terrorists is still underway in the region.

He noted that the conflict occurred in the zero point of Iran-Turkey border at the Chaldoran region.

The 550-km Iran-Turkey joint border is located in West Azarbaijan.
